Creative Visions
Open art studio is a basic introduction to art materials of all kinds, from sculpture, to painting, drawing, jewelry and more! Art provides a visual expression when words are not enough, and is adaptable to all levels of physical ability and emotional capacity. The class is taught by certified art therapist, Alyssa L. Millard, MAAT. No previous art experience is necessary, and many of the group members have never had any art experience beyond early elementary school exposure. Some create to express to the world their own special point of view, others to figure out the world around them and their place in it, and still others, to shield themselves from the world.
One class member has said of her experience in this art class (after several months of attending, and with no previous art experience): “My eyes have been opened to what art really is. I now understand that art is not just putting brush and paint to a board on an easel, but it is showing what is in our heads and hearts. I used to think that all I could do with these hands was to cook, but now I can do so much more! Dreams and possibilities are endless when we believe in ourselves.”
