ABVI instructors are providing in-person services in both the Charleston and Ladson facilities. Virtual services are available upon request. If you are interested in activities of daily living, assistive technology, braille, computer, occupational therapy (OT) or orientation and mobility (O&M), please contact Ruthie, ABVI’s Client Services Specialist, at 843.723.6915.

Client of the Month
This month’s client spotlight features Irene. Irene, age 61, currently participates in a small group braille class as well as client connections. Keep up the hard work!

Acceptance Lunch & Learn: Accepting vision loss is challenging but can be done with support and resources. Life can feel good again. Join Kimberly, Program Instructor, for a Lunch & Learn discussion with your peers. Lunch will be provided by ABVI. RSVP is required by September 9th.

Music Therapy: Music therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional. Music therapy interventions can address a variety of topics including wellness promotion, stress management, pain alleviation, expression of feelings, memory enhancement, improved communication, and promotion of physical rehabilitation.

Art Therapy: Art therapy is an integrative mental health and human services program that enriches the lives of individuals through active artmaking, creative process, applied psychological therapy, and human experience. Through art therapy, clients can learn from one another on what it takes to overcome the hardships they face.

Group Therapy: Group therapy is an open conversation facilitated by a licensed counselor. Participants range in age, severity of impairment and onset of impairment. Clients share experiences and strategies related to “The 5 Stages of Grief in Relation to Sight Loss: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance” to assist in the coping process with peers.

Media Club: Clients are invited to share about any movie, podcast, or book they have recently enjoyed. Let us know if you need help with the talking books application through the state library.
