Like any charitable organization, ABVI relies heavily upon monetary contributions to keep our doors open and our programs running. We are funded by grants and by the generosity of people like you who give what they can. We are truly grateful for your support and the difference you make in the lives of the people we serve. Volunteer

The Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired South Carolina’s loves volunteers. Below is a list of current volunteer needs. If you’re interested in volunteering, contact Susan Lucas at slucas@abvisc.org or 843-410-1061!

Administrative Volunteers (Mondays – Thursdays, 8 am to 4 pm): The ABVI administrative staff needs help with various office tasks. This work could include coordinating quarterly mailings, ordering guide dog food, making calls, welcoming clients and more. If you are interested in helping around the office, we would love to meet with you.

Braille (Tuesdays – Thursdays, 11 am – 12 pm): Braille is a tactile system of reading and writing for the blind. Even if you don’t know braille, our instructors can use your help practicing and/or quizzing our clients on what they’ve learned.

Client Connections (Wednesdays 10 am – 12 pm): Client Connections is a weekly social opportunity where clients come together to learn from, share with and support each other. Current opportunities include: cooking, movies, client lunches and more. We are always in need of volunteers to help with these classes. Or, if you have a special skill you would like to share, we would love to create a new opportunity with you.

Event Support  (Various times throughout the year): From our annual blind dining event Noir to happy hours to help raise awareness of our mission to client luncheons, we can always use extra hands for set-up, selling raffle tickets or helping at the ABVI table.

Job Readiness Coaching (Tuesdays – Thursdays, Various Times): ABVI needs help teaching our clients the personal skills they need to obtain a job and be successful within the workplace. This includes resume building, interview skills, communications, professional dress and more. We would love volunteers who have general management experience and/or experience interviewing and hiring.
