Join the ABVI Vision Challenge.

Each year, ABVI hosts Strikes for Sight in an effort to raise awareness for the difficulties of living with blindness or a visual impairment. While we cannot bowl together this year, we still want to provide an opportunity for you to have a deeper understanding of how tough daily tasks can be without the use of sight and without proper adaptive training.

The ABVI Vision Challenge will take place on October 13 -14, 2020. The virtual event challenges participants to attempt a series of everyday tasks, like putting toothpaste on a toothbrush and brushing their teeth, while wearing visual impairment simulation glasses or a blindfold in order to have a glimpse into the lives of the more than 15,000 Tri-County residents who are blind or visually impaired.

It’s just $15 to join the ABVI Vision Challenge and participants are encouraged to set their own fundraising goals as they work to complete the challenge. Your participation entry fee and challenge donations help us recoup lost revenue from several in person events we are having to repurpose this year, including Strikes for Sight.

After registering below, participants will be mailed a package that includes one pair of visual impairment simulation glasses, a blindfold, educational information on the different types of visual impairments that will be represented through the challenge, directions for the toothbrush challenge and a list of additional everyday tasks the participants can choose to complete. In addition, on October 13, 2020, ABVI will post a series of educational videos with tips from our instructors on how to complete each the challenge. These tips will mirror what many of our clients learn during vision rehabilitation training at ABVI. Participants will also receive a text-to-donate link share with family and friends.
