ABVI’s mission is to enrich the quality of life of the blind and visually impaired. We provide programs promoting personal independence and vocational rehabilitation for blind and visually impaired adults throughout Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester Counties. Below is a list of our current volunteer needs.
Client Connections is a weekly social opportunity where clients come together to learn from, share with and support each other. Current opportunities include: cooking, movies, quarterly client lunches, art therapy and more. If you have a special skill you would like to share, we would love to create a new opportunity with you.
Job Readiness Coaching
ABVI needs help teaching our clients the personal skills they need to obtain a job and be successful within the workplace. This includes resume building, interview skills, communications, professional dress and more. We would love volunteers who have general management experience and/or experience interviewing and hiring.
Braille is a tactile system of reading and writing for the blind. Even if you don’t know braille, our instructors can use your help practicing and/or quizzing our clients on what they’ve learned. We offer Grade 1 and 2 Braille.
The ABVI administrative staff needs help with various office tasks. This work could include coordinating quarterly mailings, ordering guide dog food, making calls, welcoming clients and more. If you are interested in helping around the office, we would love to meet with you.
From our annual blind dining event Noir to the Good Cheer client holiday luncheon, we can always use extra hands for set-up, selling raffle tickets or helping at the ABVI table. Annual Events Include: Noir (January), Card Party (February) Sip & Shop (March), Visionary Dinner (April), Awareness Happy Hours (Spring & Fall), Strikes for Sight (July), Friendsgiving Luncheon (November), Good Cheer Luncheon (December).
