Learn how to foster early literacy skills through touch, listening, and meaningful interactions at home. In this virtual webinar, participants will explore braille books, story boxes, and tactile storytelling techniques that help young children who are blind or low vision engage with books and language. We'll also demonstrate practical strategies for interactive read-alouds, narration, and parent-guided activities that support communication, comprehension, and a lifelong love of reading. Join teens from across the state for a live online celebration of White Cane Awareness Day. This interactive session will recognize the importance of the white cane as a tool for independence, confidence, and self-advocacy. Participants will have opportunities to learn about the history and significance of White Cane Awareness Day, share experiences, and engage in discussions that promote awareness and pride within the blind and low vision community. This hands-on showcase explores a range of lighting, magnification, and contrast tools to maximize functional vision and reduce eye strain. You will have the opportunity to test out a curated selection of gear and gadgets to discover what is possible and explore which setup best supports your independence in both home and work.
