Starting 2026 with Braille: Start Here!
Beyond teaching braille skills, this class empowered clients with confidence to try something new! Dan, a recent participant, shared how transformative the experience was for him. When he first arrived, he felt overwhelmed and intimidated by braille. But with the thoughtful pacing, manageable lessons, and creative instruction, his uncertainty shifted to confidence. The expertise and support of ABVI’s instructors gave Dan the courage to openly ask questions and engage in class. Afterwards, he was so encouraged, he couldn’t wait to share with his wife that he learned the first three letters of the braille alphabet!🎉

Vision 2030 Makes Essential Eyecare Affordable & Accessible!
ABVI is partnering with Servants for Sight and Lions Vision Services in Vision 2030, a statewide, 3-year initiative to address the lack of accessible, affordable eye care in SC. Vision 2030 offers adults with vision loss access to FREE vision screenings, corrective eye surgeries, and rehabilitation skills training. Student Play Promotes Progress🔎
At ABVI, our Teachers for the Visually Impaired (TVI) and Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialists (COMS) work with a variety of educational professionals! By coordinating services, we can ensure access to curriculum, giving students the best opportunity for success and independence.
Here, one of our students is working with her TVI, Physical Therapist (PT), Occupational Therapist (OT), and Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) on individualized goals through a fun and engaging activity. She is making progress in these areas while she learns through play!

Clients Celebrate Courage and Community Through Art
On February 5th, ABVI’s Art Therapy program held its first-ever public art exhibit, Reflections. This inspiring showcase featured self-portraits created by participants in the Art Therapy program. Families, friends, and local community members admired the variety of artwork, featuring quilts and crochet blankets, paintings, masks, and decorated boxes. Each piece in the exhibit reflected the artists’ identity, emotion, and confidence. Guests enjoyed listening to the artist audio statements that accompanied each piece, highlighting themes of courage, support, and joy.
